Sturbridge Lions River Race
This year the Sturbridge Lions Club will be hosting their 38th Sturbridge Lions River Race on April 27, 2025. This is a timed race over six miles of the Quinebaug River. Racers start every minute beginning at 11:01 am. We have an average of 40 watercraft that register each year. Typically, we have 100-150 spectators watching the race.
This event is one of the Sturbridge Lions Clubs major fundraisers each year. Once hundred percent of all funds raised by the Lions is returned to the community. Our support includes eyeglasses, hearing aids, fuel assistance and scholarships awarded to seniors graduating from Tantasqua, as well as contributions to the Lions Club International Fund and Boston Eye and Ear Hospital. We are seeking your financial support as a sponsor for this event. We will list our sponsors in our advertising as well as prominently display their names on race day.
When: Sunday, April 27, 2025; Registration begins 9:00 am, Race begins 11:00 am
Where: Race begins at Turners’ Field (Route 20), Sturbridge, MA
Race ends at Westville Dam Recreational Area, Southbridge, MA
Registration: $30 per person participation donation
The Sturbridge Emergency Rescue Team will on site and in the river, and we man the complete route with spotters from the HAM Radio Club. They keep us all safe and use the event as a training exercise. At the finish, the Recreational Area features hiking trails, a boat ramp and strategic viewing spots for your family and friends to see the crats negotiate the rapids and plenty of photo opportunities. This race is also eligible for the New England Canoe and Kayak Recreation Association’s (NECKRA) Downriver Point Series.
