“Elijah” was composed for the Birmingham Music Festival in 1846, and the score for the final movement was delivered just days before the performance! Mendelssohn's "Elijah" is a monumental work of art, known for its grandeur, emotional depth, and captivating storytelling. Through dramatic choruses, soaring arias, and poignant recitatives, "Elijah" takes audiences into the trials and triumphs of the biblical prophet “Elijah” with unparalleled intensity and fervor.
Although “Elijah” is as popular as Handel’s “Messiah” and Brahms “A German Requiem,” “Elijah” seldom performed, in full, partly due to its length. AVM will present an abridged version, reduced in length from 2½ hours to 2 hours. There will be one, 15 minute intermission.
