Echoes of Nature

On Wednesday, June 17th, at 6:00 PM, the Levi Heywood Memorial Library will host Echoes of Nature, an immersive multimedia collaboration between musician Jess Martin and poet Kim Hoff. The performance combines original music, spoken word, and nature-inspired storytelling to celebrate the resilience of our local environment and the communities that call it home. While Echoes of Nature has toured across Massachusetts, the duo makes a point of connecting each performance to the specific community they are visiting. In preparation for the Gardner event, Martin and Hoff spent time exploring Crystal Lake and the Perley Loop Trail, allowing the local atmosphere to inform the evening's dialogue and performance. "The heart of this show is about deep listening," says Jess Martin. "Whether we are walking the Perley Loop or performing in the library, we are looking for the threads that connect us to the land. We want to give the Gardner community a space to pause and appreciate the beauty right in their own backyard." The program is designed to be both a performance and a community-building event. Martin and Hoff often hear from audience members that the show "inspired them to get outside and explore their own local trails." To encourage this, the duo provides information on accessible local green spaces, aiming to turn artistic inspiration into real-world connection. "We explore the full spectrum of our relationship with nature—from the quiet and reflective to the joyful and lighthearted," says poet Kim Hoff. "Our goal is that neighbors leave the library feeling more connected to the landscape and to each other." Supported by the Gardner Cultural Council, this event is free and open to all ages.
