Since 1946, The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 8469 Fairfax Station, Virginia, has aided Veterans in need and been an integral Community partner. We are a (501) (c) (19) organization, whose most important mission is to assist all Veterans in need and make their lives better. We help directly through financial aid and donate to other non-profit organizations that aid Veterans. In our community, members serve as mentors to Veterans who want to turn their troubled lives around through the Fairfax Veterans’ Docket Program. We foster patriotism by participating in Fairfax’s Annual July 4th parade with floats, marchers, and reenactors. Annually we recognize local Fire, Police, and Emergency Medical Team personnel and provide monetary awards for their outstanding service. We also conduct, and annually fund, two youth scholarship programs for middle and high schoolers. We recognize Teachers of the Year (TOY) at all three levels of education. At the National level, we work with the National Honor Flight Program supporting four events each year. As a nonprofit, our Post relies entirely on donations from individuals, organizations, and businesses, as well as our fundraising efforts. Last year, the event was a success and raised a significant amount of funds that has allowed the Post to expand its support to Veterans.
