The City Choir of Washington Concert - An Apartment in Vienna

18th century Vienna was a thrilling place for musicians to call home. In one storied apartment building, owned by the famous Esterhazys in Vienna’s Michaelerplatz, the composer Marianna Martines (1744 – 1812) lived with her family on the third floor. Joseph Haydn (1732 – 1809) lived in the attic flat, and the poet and librettist Metastasio (1698 – 1782), a close family friend of the Martineses, was also in residence, as was the composer Nicola Porpora, who gave singing lessons to Marianna and employed Haydn as an assistant. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756 – 1791) was a frequent visitor and participant in musicales held in the building, and wrote a number of piano pieces for four hands that he played with Marianna. ✨Marianna Martines, Dixit Dominus ✨Joseph Haydn, Missa Brevis in F Major ✨W.A.
