Across the country, books are being challenged, restricted, and removed — but stories still deserve to be heard.
Social Art and Culture, along with Mid-Atlantic Arts, WPFW, We Act Radio, and Cozy Black Girl Book Club, present UNBANNED, an afternoon event centered on banned books, creative freedom, and the power of access to information.
Join us Sunday, January 18th, MLK Holiday Weekend, at the historic Miracle Theatre. The event begins with an expert panel led by Katea Stitt, WPFW, featuring National Education Association, PEN America, and Banned Together filmmakers. The discussion is followed by a screening of the 3x award-winning documentary film, Banned Together. In the Miracle Theatre lobby, guests can purchase books from the BOL Coop Bookstore Association— a fundraiser for The Artivism Library Collection, opening in 2026 in Anacostia.
UNBANNED brings educators, artists, and advocates together to discuss censorship and why banned books matter.
Tickets are pay-what-you-can, and seating is limited.
