Once Upon a Mattress, the musical, presented by The Pickwick Players
This charming musical, a retelling of the beloved fairy tale The Princess and the Pea, will run May 16-17 and 23-24, 2025. With its engaging story, delightful characters, energetic dancing, and memorable music, Once Upon a Mattress promises to be an exceptional start to a significant year for the theater company.
Once Upon a Mattress recently enjoyed a highly successful revival on Broadway, starring Sutton Foster in the role of Princess Winnifred, bringing the musical back into the spotlight. The show offers a fresh and humorous twist on the classic tale, centering on the spirited Princess Winnifred, who is far from your typical fairy-tale heroine.
The score, composed by Mary Rodgers with lyrics by Marshall Barer, features notable numbers such as the playful “Shy,” in which Princess Winnifred expresses her unassuming nature, and the whimsical “Happily Ever After,” which offers a glimpse into the characters' idealistic dreams. Another highlight is the lively and energetic "Spanish Panic," a number that promises exciting choreography and vibrant dancing sure to captivate the audience.
