Experience the premieres of two impactful short films, SEEING WITHOUT SIGHT and DOUEN II, alongside bonus screenings of festival favorites, SENSES and NEGRO MOUNTAIN. This special event brings together documentary, horror, and narrative films that celebrate resilience, identity, and culture.
Film Synopysis:
SEEING WITHOUT SIGHT - documentary film that delves into the lives of girls and women with vision loss, challenging viewers to perceive beauty beyond sight. Through their stories, it aims to redefine societal norms of beauty, inviting a deeper understanding and appreciation. More info
DOUEN II - A Trinidadian aunty tells her niece a scary folklore, but things take an odd turn when beings suddenly appear, signaling a glimpse warning of the threat to come. Based on a Trinidad and Tobago folklore. More info

Join us for an unforgettable evening of storytelling at the AFI Silver Theatre in Silver Spring, MD, on Sunday, February 16, 2025, from 5:30–8:00 PM.
This special event features the premiere screenings of SEEING WITHOUT SIGHT and DOUEN II, along with bonus films SENSES and NEGRO MOUNTAIN.
Event Highlights:
5:30 PM: Light reception with food provided by our sponsor, Crown Bakery
. Red carpet photos.
6:00 PM: The evening begins with opening remarks followed by the premiere screening of SEEING WITHOUT SIGHT, followed by a Q&A session with Alyscia Cunningham and several participants.
7:00 PM: The program resumes with the screenings of SENSES and NEGRO MOUNTAIN, leading into the highly anticipated premiere of DOUEN II.
A second Q&A session with Alyscia Cunningham, cast and key crew will follow the screenings of SENSES, and NEGRO MOUNTAIN, and DOUEN II, offering insights into the creative process and the stories behind the films.The event ends with closing remarks.

About the Writer/Director
Rooted in her identity as a first-generation Trinidadian American, Alyscia Cunningham’s early fascination with storytelling was sparked by the tales of resilience, folklore, and life lessons shared by her Caribbean elders. These narratives of triumph over adversity and cultural heritage fuel her creative passion, driving her work in both documentary and narrative filmmaking.
As the founder of Her House Media, Alyscia champions the production of documentary and horror films written and directed by women of color. She co-organized Reel Moms with Women in Film and Video, fostering a support network for working moms and caregivers in film and TV. Alyscia is also one of the three Artist Residence with the Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County, facilitating community conversations and creative engagements.
A recognized TEDx speaker, Alyscia’s contributions to societal discourse have not gone unnoticed. She has been celebrated as part of Forbes ‘The Next 1000’ (2021), received accolades from the American Express 100 for 100 Program, and lent her voice as one of the FrontLine Voices for the Stop the Beauty Madnes campaign, aiming to globally transform beauty paradigms.
