NatureFest | NCAC
Get ready for the 5th annual NatureFest, presented by the Neighborhood Creative Arts Center (NCAC) in partnership with the College of Southern Maryland (CSM)! Prepare to be amazed, get your hands dirty, and have loads of fun as we learn about the beauties of nature together. This is a FREE event perfect for families of all ages.
Join us on Saturday, May 31st, from 10 AM to 2 PM at the College of Southern Maryland, 8730 Mitchell Road, La Plata for a day packed with exciting natural discoveries and engaging activities.
Here's a sneak peek at the schedule of events:
Native Birds of Prey: Learn all about magnificent native birds of prey with an engaging presentation from Mike Callahan of the Nanjemoy Creek Environmental Education Center.
Every Hour / Flight of the Butterflies Movie: Take a break and immerse yourselves in the beautifully themed documentary "Flight of the Butterflies," which chronicles the incredible discovery of Monarch migration patterns. Showtimes are at 10:15 AM, 11:15 AM, 12:15 PM, and 1:15 PM.
11 AM–12 PM / Native Bees: Delve into the fascinating world of native bees with Sam Droege, a Wildlife Biologist at the Eastern Ecological Science Center in Laurel, MD, in BU 105.
11 AM–12 PM / The Last Bivalvian: Dive into the aquatic realm of oysters and clams with the enchanting Chesapeake Mermaid! Get ready for an exciting look at these important creatures.
12 PM–12:45 PM / Oyster Jeopardy: Test your knowledge of the briny deep in BU 107 with Richard Siciliano of the Tidewater Oyster Gardeners. The world is your oyster...or is it?
12 PM–1 PM / Chesapeake Mermaid Pictures: Don't miss this opportunity for a VIP session and a magical photo with the visiting Chesapeake Mermaid!
1–2 PM / Volunteering in Calvert County: Discover the many ways you can get involved in preserving our natural spaces by visiting the Calvert Nature Society in BU 106. Learn about exciting volunteer opportunities in Calvert County!
