Art in the Atrium: Pop Rivet Assemblage

Discover the joy of art-making in our beautiful, tree-filled, and sunlit atrium. These workshops are designed to be accessible to all ages and skill levels, providing a welcoming environment for everyone to explore their creativity, build confidence, and learn new skills. All ages 1 session Kim McKinnis Assemblage is an art technique that involves combining found or discarded objects to create three-dimensional artwork. In this hands-on, mixed media workshop, participants of all ages will explore the artistic potential of everyday waste by making unique sculptures from repurposed materials. The workshop will begin with a visit to the galleries, where we will draw inspiration from Duke Riley’s innovative use of ocean debris. Following the gallery visit, teaching artist Kim McKinnis will guide participants through a demonstration and exploration of materials, introducing the pop rivet tool—a versatile device for securely connecting various objects. Participants will have the opportunity to practice using the tool, learning how to safely and creatively attach materials to form their sculptures. Once the techniques are introduced, participants will work at their own pace, with McKinnis offering guidance and support as needed. Each participant will leave with a one-of-a-kind sculpture, transforming discarded materials into art in their own personal style. This workshop is perfect for anyone interested in sustainable art practices, eager to experiment with creative reuse, and excited to turn everyday debris into colorful, playful sculptures that carry an important environmental message. *Participants under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Level: All levels welcome Saturday, August 2 11:00 AM–1:00 PM Members $25; Nonmembers $30
