Deepen your spiritual growth or understanding of all that yoga embodies. This seven-week course covers the roots of yoga, based on the Yoga Sutras codified by Patanjali starting around 5,000 B.C. This philosophy has links to other traditions, including Buddhism and Sankya yoga. Patanjali’s four books, or chapters, include the teachings often summarized as The Eight Limbs of Yoga or Raja Yoga. These teachings offer guiding principles leading to a healthier, and more balanced lifestyle for individuals of any spiritual or religious tradition. Most people are familiar with yoga poses, but the philosophy also includes principles such as non-violence, purity, breathing techniques, meditation, and more. Each week will build on previous sessions. Lead by Naomi Greene, certified yoga instructor and yoga swami (Swami Ishananda). Any book on the yoga sutras can be used for reading. However, most discussion will be based on "The Yoga-Sutra of Patanjali: A New Translation and Commentary" by Charles Johnston and J Henderson Connelly. And also on the writings of Goswami Kriyananda in "The Spiritual Science of Kriya Yoga."
Also offered online. Meets every Tuesday evening. $50
Led by Naomi Greene, E-RYT-200, Swami Ishananda
