Plays include Macbeth, macbitches, Peerless, It is Magic, and 5 Acts 5 Macs. This highly anticipated event runs March 6 through April 27 at S&S and at The Loft in Tucson, Arizona, and promises to be a dynamic, boundary-pushing showcase of theatre. Visit scoundrelandscamp.org/macfestival to learn more about each out-of-the-box reimagining of Macbeth-inspired plays, readings, lectures and activities. Macbeth: An all-female cast brings a new adaptation of William Shakespeare’s text by Elizabeth Falcón in collaboration with the internationally renowned Lisa Wolpe to the stage. Runs March 6-23, 2025 at the S&S Theatre. macbitches: An Arizona premiere of the new play by Sophie McIntosh on Shakespeare’s tale where five BFA actresses deal with an unexpected “miscasting” of Lady Macbeth in a manner on theme. Runs April 4-13, 2025. Peerless: A reading of the dark comedy from a Jihae Park play telling the tale of two sisters so obsessed with entry to a prestigious college that murder seems the only path. Runs March 29 & 30, 2025 at S&S. It is Magic: From the brilliantly twisted mind of Mickle Maher comes a dark comedy mashing up Macbeth and an adult version of the Three Little Pigs that challenges the limits of theater’s magic. Runs April 10-20, 2025 at S&S. 5 Acts 5 Macs: Five Tucson theaters (Saguaro City Music Theatre, Winding Road Theater, Borderlands Theater, Unscrewed Theater, and S&S) take on one act each as they come together to riff on Macbeth in their own particular way, as a musical, improv event, or even beat poetry. Runs April 25-27, 2025 at S&S. The MacFestival Book Club: Join other book lovers of the Scoundrel and Scamp Theatre for a Macbeth-themed book club led by Dr. Betsy Labiner at S&S. February 8, March 9 and April 6. Macbird: Barbara Garson, writer of the play, joins S&S from New York for a talk and performance of two scenes from the play. First performed in 1967 in New York’s Greenwich Village to controversy, this Barbara Garson play superimposes the John F. Kennedy assassination onto the plot of Shakespeare's Macbeth. March 22nd at S&S. Throne of Blood: Akira Kurosawa’s Throne of Blood is a 1957 Japanese jidaigeki film inspired by Macbeth. The film will be shown in partnership with the Loft Theater on April 3rd at the Loft. “We are beyond excited to bring the MacFestival to the Tucson community and offer a space where bold, new ideas can flourish,” said Bryan Falcón, Artistic & Managing Director at Scoundrel & Scamp Theatre. “This festival is a chance for us to showcase the incredible talent in our community, while also joining with other leading companies and organizations in the area to bring our community together.” For more information on ticket pricing (including a 5-play Flex Pass), the MacFestival Book Club, the Throne of Blood partnership with The Loft and how to reserve your spot, visit scoundrelandscamp.org/macfestival
