From July 7, 2026, to March 21, 2027, experience Peruvian Retablos by renowned folk artist Claudio Jimenez Quispe, on loan from Pat Manion’s private collection. These 16 handcrafted wooden boxes showcase intricate scenes of Peruvian culture, history, and politics. Rooted in a centuries-old tradition brought by Spanish conquerors, retablos evolved in the 1940s to celebrate Peruvian life and heritage beyond religious themes. Quispe’s works are held in museums worldwide, including the Smithsonian, offering visitors a rare glimpse into the beauty, tragedy, and storytelling of the Andes.
