In this solo exhibition, artist Joanna Pregon explores the spaces where emotion, nature, and belonging meet. Both her journey from Poland to Arizona and overcoming health challenges deeply informs this body of work. Her paintings inhabit the delicate balance between vulnerability and strength — fluid, abstract compositions where heart-like and seed-like forms unfold like petals or flames. Through soft layers of color and texture, Pregon creates meditative worlds that invite reflection and connection, guiding viewers inward toward stillness and renewal.
Opening Reception: Sunday, January 25 | 12:00–4:00 PM
Artist Statement
________________________________________
My journey as an artist is one of discovery — a way of connecting with others while learning about myself. Painting is both a refuge and a exploration, a means of transforming emotion into understanding and peace.
The process of creating is meditative for me, revealing an inner reality that is beyond the reach of my conscious mind. Through flowing, well-defined lines and soft gradients of oil on canvas, I crate organic worlds that feel captivating and alive.
I hope my work offers an invitation to slow down, to look inward, and to sense the subtle harmony that exists between what is seen and what is felt.
Biography
________________________________________
Born to Lemko parents in Communist Poland, Joanna Pregon began her journey to the United States at the age of ten, arriving two years later. Her family crossed national, cultural, and linguistic borders, passing through Germany before finding a new home in Connecticut. The upheaval of migration and struggles with illness deepened her sensitivity to change, memory, and belonging — themes that continue to surface in her art today.
Drawn toward open horizons and a deeper sense of self, her curiosity for the West and her creative calling brought her to Arizona, where she studied graphic design and discovered painting as her true language.
Since beginning her career in 1999, Pregon’s work has been exhibited nationally and collected internationally. Her paintings have appeared on the covers of several publications and are part of the permanent collection at the Shemer Art Center and Museum in Phoenix, where she held a solo exhibition in 2003. From 2006 to 2009, she operated her own gallery in the mountainside town of Jerome, Arizona. She has also been a guest artist at DeGrazia’s “Little Gallery” three times, curating her own solo exhibitions.
Dedicated to sharing her passion for creative expression, Pregon has taught school-age children and volunteered with various non-profit organizations. She continues to support the artistic community through her work as Membership Chair of the Scottsdale Artists League. In 2024, she joined On The Edge Gallery in Old Town Scottsdale, where her art continues to be exhibited.
Now based in Scottsdale, Joanna Pregon continues to explore how memory and transformation rise from the layered landscapes of loss and renewal — each painting an exploration of resilience and becoming.
