AET Presents the TONY-Award Winning Musical “Come From Away”

Welcome to the Rock!” The Tony-award winning musical “Come From Away” will soon take center stage at Arts Express Theatre. Based on a true story, the uplifting “Come from Away” highlights the week following September 11 when a small town in Newfoundland, Canada welcomed 7,000 stranded airline passengers with open hearts, giving strangers from across the world shelter and hope in the face of crisis. With a fully LIVE show, performances run weekends June 19-July 12 on Fridays and Saturdays at 7 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday Matinees at 2 p.m., with two added Sunday performances on June 28 and July 5 at 7:00 p.m. It’s just an ordinary day in Gander, Newfoundland, as the local Mayor, Claude (Dennis Tamblyn) and other locals tell of how they started their day, when suddenly they hear the news of the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York. Once they hear that planes will be redirected to their airport, the Gander townspeople, galvanized by the amiable schoolteacher Beulah (Amy Williams), band together to find enough shelter, clothes and food for all the inbound passengers. As all 38 planes from around the world land, and passengers, pilots and flight crew disembark, the people of Gander welcome them and provide what comfort they can to the “come from aways.” Remarkably, the first female American airline Captain, Beverley Bass (Amy Gustin Millin) is among those stranded, stepping into the role of refugee along with the others. As the townspeople’s lives intertwine with the “plane people” over the next five days and their stories and histories are shared, they will discover deep bonds, lasting friendships, and moments of hope and cheer, coming together to become a beacon of humanity. With inspiring, unforgettable storytelling and a soaring score with touches of “Newfoundland” traditional music interwoven by Irene Sankoff and David Hein, this multi-award winning musical will leave audiences’ toes tapping and hearts full. Don’t miss “Come From Away!” “Come From Away” is Directed by Dana Milne, with Music Direction by Elizabeth Spencer and Choreography by Simone Jolivet-Manuel.
