Ballet Tucson Presents Spirit Garden and Other Works


Ballet Tucson celebrates its 40th Anniversary Season with a spectacular program honoring the artistry, creativity, and cultural heritage that have helped define the company for four decades. Ballet Tucson returns to the mainstage at the Temple of Music and Art October 23–25 with four captivating works, including a world premiere, an audience-favorite encore, and the highly anticipated return of Spirit Garden. Ovation Ballet Tucson Artistic Leaders Chieko Imada, Margaret Mullin, and Brik Middlekauff have joined forces to create Ovation, a world premiere celebrating the School of Ballet Tucson and Ballet Tucson's 40 years of excellence in classical ballet. The Storm Before the Calm The 2026 Steps Forward audience choice winner The Storm Before the Calm returns for an encore presentation, showcasing the creative talents of Ballet Tucson's dancers. The Steps Forward choreographers' showcase features a collection of original works created by current Ballet Tucson company members specifically for their fellow dancers. The program provides an important opportunity for Ballet Tucson artists to explore their creativity and develop their choreographic voices while gaining valuable professional experience. [NO HOLDS] barre’d Tucson audiences have been captivated by the choreography of Kiyon Ross since his Ballet Tucson debut in 2022. His vibrant and playful tutu ballet with a twist, [NO HOLDS] barre’d, returns by popular demand. Ross has choreographed works for Pacific Northwest Ballet, PNB School, the New York City Ballet Choreographic Institute, Atlanta Ballet, the School of American Ballet, Spectrum Dance Theater, and more. He also served as resident choreographer at Ballet Arkansas from 2015–2018 and is currently Associate Artistic Director at Pacific Northwest Ballet Spirit Garden The highly anticipated return of Chieko Imada's Spirit Garden will once again enchant audiences with a beautiful ballet inspired by Día de los Muertos. The work features artwork by renowned Southwest artist Lawrence Lee, along with music by acclaimed Tucson band Calexico and guitarist Misael Barraza-Diaz. Together, the choreography, visual art, and music create a distinctive celebration of the Southwest and a moving tribute to the traditions and spirit of Día de los Muertos.
