For more than a century, La Fiesta de los Vaqueros, the Tucson Rodeo, has brought together locals and visitors from across the Southwest to honor the cowboy spirit through professional competition, family fun, and cultural tradition. Whether you come for the thrill of bull riding, or the excitement of seeing kids try their hand at mutton bustin’, this is the week when Tucson truly comes alive with rodeo fever.
Each day, gates open at 10 a.m., giving guests time to explore vendor booths, grab classic Western food, and enjoy live entertainment before the arena action begins. At noon, the crowd cheers for the Mutton Bustin’ event as young cowboys and cowgirls take their turn riding sheep out of the chute. At 12:30 p.m., the Jr. Rodeo gives youth competitors from around Arizona the opportunity to showcase their skills and celebrate the next generation of rodeo athletes.
The main rodeo performance begins at 2:00 p.m. and runs until approximately 4:00–4:30 p.m., depending on the number of contestants and any re-rides. Sanctioned by the PRCA and WPRA, the Tucson Rodeo features professional athletes competing in bareback riding, steer wrestling, team roping, saddle bronc riding, tie-down roping, barrel racing, and bull riding. Each event combines athleticism, precision, and courage, bringing the heart of Western competition to the arena.
When the last bull bucks, the celebration continues with the Coors Barn Dance, held after each of the six performances and running until 8 p.m. Fans, contestants, and locals come together for live music, dancing, food, and fun. On Saturday mornings, February 22 and March 1, Cowboy Church begins at 10 a.m. in the same barn area as the dance. The service, hosted by local ministry partners, is open to all and provides a time of reflection and fellowship.
The Tucson Rodeo welcomes everyone—from lifelong ranch families to first-time visitors curious about the Western way of life. Families will enjoy the mutton bustin’, Jr. Rodeo, parade, and family-friendly atmosphere. It’s also a favorite outing for groups, coworkers, and visitors looking to experience the authentic spirit of the Southwest.
Tickets often sell out early, with reserved grandstand seating offering the best views and general admission areas providing a relaxed option for families. Arrive early to park, enjoy vendors, and find your seat before the noon events begin.
Visitors are encouraged to arrive early, wear Western attire, stay for the dance, and bring sun protection for Tucson’s bright February days. The rodeo performances last about two and a half hours, with plenty to see and do before and after.
La Fiesta de los Vaqueros is more than a sporting event—it’s a living piece of Tucson’s heritage. Each performance honors the hardworking cowboys and cowgirls who built the Southwest while uniting generations in celebration of faith, family, and community.
