The Christmas in Ida Holiday Hounds on Parade, presented by Holcim USA, is set to bring joy and excitement to the community with over 100 dogs dressed in their holiday finest marching down Lewis Avenue in downtown Ida.
This unique parade welcomes all breeds, ages, and sizes, inviting handlers and their furry friends to participate in a festive celebration. Special guests McGruff and his nephew Scruffy will make appearances, hosted by the Monroe County Sheriff Department and the Office of the Monroe County Prosecutor, providing safety education and interacting with children.
Participants will be judged as they parade from the Ida United Methodist Church on Ida East Road, heading west to Lewis Avenue, then south to Ida Street before looping back to the church. David Kubiske will serve as Master of Ceremonies, providing lively commentary and narratives about each entry as they stroll past the judges’ stage.
The esteemed panel of judges includes Connie Carrol, retired Executive Director of Monroe/Lenawee County United Way; the Honorable Michael Brown, Monroe County Chief District Court; and Sheriff Troy Goodnough. They will select a canine Prince and Princess, who will ride on their own float during the evening’s Parade of Lights, hosted by Project Second Chance.
Awards will be given in six categories:
Most Adorable
Smallest Pet
Mammoth Pet
Best Vocal Performance
Waggiest Tail
Best Dog Pulling Cart
Winners will receive plaques, and all participants are invited to join the evening's Parade of Lights. Additionally, Project Second Chance will offer Holiday Photos with Your Canine Friend at the Ida United Methodist Church, both before and after the parade. This photo shoot serves as a fundraiser for the organization.
Participants must keep their dogs on a leash at all times and will sign a waiver at the registration staging area. The Holiday Hounds on Parade kicks off at 2:15 PM, with parking available at the Ida Township Community Center, accessible from Van Aiken Street (by the water tower)
