Memory Café comes to the Tarpon Springs Public Library
Caregivers & Companions Memory Café is a fun and engaging monthly gathering for people living with memory changes and their family caregivers. Attendees will experience a place for building community with light refreshments, games, music, crafts, and movement in a supportive environment. Meet others who know what it’s like to care for someone experiencing memory loss and learn about local resources, including the library’s new Memory Care Collection with items available for checkout. Dementia is a growing concern for people as they age, with more than 7 million people in the United States living with some form of dementia (1). Roughly one in four American adults, or 24 percent, is a family caregiver. 59 million adults are caregivers of adults ages 18 and older, such as a parent, spouse, or adult child living with a disability. One-quarter of these caregivers are caring for adults with memory issues and/or dementia (2).
Caregivers & Companions Memory Café provides a place for caregivers and their companions with memory loss to meet others who understand and have fun. It will take place on the first Saturday of each month from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM at the Tarpon Springs Public Library, 138 East Lemon Street, Tarpon Springs, FL, 34689. Our first Memory Café will meet on Saturday, January 3rd.
This program is free. Caregivers & Companions Memory Café is a registered member of the Memory Café Alliance, following the guidance of Dementia Friendly America. For more information, visit tarponlibrary.org or call 727-943-4922.
