Tampa Oratorio Singers Present Brahms Requiem – A Message of Consolation and Hope!

Tampa Oratorio Singers present the Johannes Brahms Requiem, a popular and enduring choral masterwork. Written at the pinnacle of Johannes Brahms’ career, the Requiem is known for its profound emotional resonance and comforting message, beginning with the text, "Blessed are they that mourn, for they shall be comforted." The familiar chorus, How Lovely is Thy Dwelling Place, is rich with themes of comfort and solace. Reflecting on the enduring popularity of this piece, Nancy Callahan, TOS Music Director, explained, “The Requiem is one of the most important and well-loved choral masterworks of the Romantic period. It offers a message of consolation and hope for the listener.” While this work is typically performed in German, TOS will perform it in English to enhance the enjoyment of the audience. Grigorios Zamparas, Chair of the University of Tampa Department of Music and Dale Williams will accompany the chorus, using a four-hand piano accompaniment written by Brahms himself. Professional soloist, Todd Donovan, will be featured during the concert. The performance will take place at Palma Ceia Presbyterian Church, 3501 W San Jose St, Tampa, FL, on Palm Sunday, April 13, at 4:00 p.m. Tickets are available on the chorus website or at the door. $30 for general admission/$10 for students.
