This workshop will feature hands-on chocolate activities and focus on using CHOCOLATE to explore:The history, cultural significance and economic impact of chocolate from ancient Mesoamerica to the present dayThe science of chocolate, including the cacao ecosystem and the basic chemistry and physics of chocolateThe history of chocolate manufacturing technology and the chocolate-making processThe economic, cultural and social impacts of innovations in chocolate manufacturing technology and the resulting new productsGuest speakers: Lisa Lawson, Teacher of Gifted Students, Claywell Elementary School, Hillsborough CountyTBA, American Heritage ChocolateTBA, Tampa Bay Times Food HubAttendees will receive:Science of Chocolate, a new Newspaper in Education curriculum supplement from the Tampa Bay Times NIE program and American Heritage Chocolate.
