Master Artist Larry Maynard: "An American Tonalist"
Larry Maynard is a painter of nature, which serves as both the muse and the medium for his work. These mystical landscapes are peaceful and meditative, allowing the viewer to jump in and get lost. His work is a conscious play of mood, light and color with a simplistic style of tonalism.
Maynard’s artistic journey began in the Air Force, photographing the European countries he toured. But his art is rooted in a childhood steeped with the rich traditions of hunting, fishing, and an early appreciation for the splendor of nature's beauty. Transitioning from photography, He ventured into oil painting, breathing new life into his captured images and concocting imaginary realms fueled by memory and imagination.
The exhibition, “Master Artist Larry Maynard: An American Tonalist” will be featured at GCAA ArtWorks, 5546 First Avenue N, St Petersburg Tuesday, March 4 through Saturday, March 29, 2025. A Reception will be held on Saturday, March 15, featuring live music by Jazz Flutist Bruce Daniels.
