Portraits: Prominent and Personal Exhibition by Jeff Giles and Latonya Hicks
Sharing the exhibition, “Portraits: Prominent and Personal,” Latonya Hicks and Jeff Giles convey their portraiture in vastly different ways. Giles’ pen and ink renditions of famous personalities are immediately recognizable. Hicks uses the material remnants of others to portray powerful memories from childhood experiences that resonate in her life.
Latonya Hicks constructs eloquent, densely layered mixed-media narratives that revisit childhood summers spent at her grandmother Ossie's home. Like an archaeologist, she excavates and examines cast-off, found, and gifted artifacts, creating intimate connections between these objects and her personal history.
Jeff Giles’ stunning black, white and grey drawings of stars, heroes, and icons capture the essence of his subject matter with remarkable precision. Jeff’s skilled hand and keen eye for detail bring out the depth, character, and emotions of diverse individuals, such as Post Malone, Bob Marley and Drew Barrymore.
Meet both of these talented artists at the reception on May 10 from 5 to 9pm during St. Pete’s Second Saturday Art Walk at GCAA ArtWorks Gallery. It will be a fun and inspiring evening with live music by singer-songwriter Bill Vinhage. The show is also on view Thursdays through Saturdays, 11am to 5pm until May 31. GCAA ArtWorks is located at 5546 First Avenue, North, St. Petersburg, Fl 33712. There is plenty of free parking, and it is on the SunRunner route.
