Caring for Our Mendham Environment
Preserving our Dark Skies at the Mendham Township Library
Mendham, NJ –
On Thursday, May 21st at 7pm, join a panel of presenters for an in-depth discussion on Preserving our Dark Skies at the Mendham Township Library.
Light pollution disrupts ecosystems, obscures our view of the night sky, and is associated with various human health conditions. Learn about the basics of light pollution, responsible lighting practices, and policies that can help reduce light pollution in New Jersey and beyond. This presentation will feature how Mendham Township’s Dark Skies initiative aims to reduce light pollution, preserve the natural night environment and improve quality of life for residents. By promoting responsible outdoor lighting—focused, shielded, and appropriately timed—the ordinance enhances public safety while protecting wildlife and restoring visibility of the night sky. This effort aligns the Township with best practices in sustainability and reinforces its commitment to environmental stewardship and community character.
