Daughter’s Daughter

After last being on our screen in a new restoration of 1984’s Shanghai Blues this past July, Webster Film Series favorite Sylvia Chang plays sixtysomething Jin in the new Taiwanese film Daughter’s Daughter. Jin’s concern is for her queer daughter Zuer (Eugenie Liu) who’s in New York trying out IVF. When Jin receives the tragic news that Zuer and her partner have died in an accident, she also finds out that she now needs to decide the fate of Zuer’s embryo. Meanwhile, Jin’s trip to New York forces her to face Emma (Karena Lam, July Rhapsody), the daughter she gave up for adoption when she was 17. Past regrets and future responsibilities collide. Executive produced by Chang and Hou Hsiao-hsien.
