Author Event: Francene Hill

How do you transform a suitcase of love letters, newspaper clippings, and classified government records into an acclaimed biography? Praised by Kirkus Reviews as an "engaging book that often reads like a novel," this creative biography honors the extraordinary journey of her mother, an African American woman who guarded World War II secrets at the Pentagon before becoming a business owner at the iconic Tiny Tot Nursery School. For 60 years, this unique institution has empowered generations of St. Louis children through early childhood education and performances, including King and Queen Coronations, Graduation Speeches, and Tom Thumb Weddings. Former students, staff, family, and friends are invited as special guests of the author and encouraged to share their own memories. During this special event, attendees will hear select readings, gain insight into the author's research and writing process, and discover how Kermit B. Hill's legacy continues to resonate today. About the Author: Francene Mary Diane Hill grew up surrounded by the energy and purpose of the Tiny Tot Nursery School, founded by her mother, Kermit Hill, in 1951 before she was born. She holds a B.A. from Smith College and an M.S. from Penn State University. Francene Hill's passion for storytelling has taken her to The Moth StorySLAM in Washington, DC. She has been featured in Sisters of AARP Magazine, and on multiple stages sharing her mother's inspiring legacy. Tiny Tots in Tiaras and Tuxedos is her tribute to Kermit's groundbreaking achievements and lasting community impact.
