This exhibit brings together the creative journeys of Timothy Grotrian, his son Justin Grotrian, and their close friend Dennis Krueger, each with their own unique artistic style and personal story. Running from April 29th through June 21st, the exhibit provides an opportunity to explore the connections between their distinct artistic approaches and shared experiences.
Timothy’s work is deeply influenced by his time in Germany, where the Renaissance and Baroque architecture of cities like Augsburg and Munich sparked his love for art. His early works, like Hercules Fountain, focus on the grandeur of architecture, but over time, his style shifted to more figurative painting. Pieces like Justin Sleeping show this change, moving toward a more personal, introspective approach.
Justin grew up surrounded by art and the German fairy tales his mother, Barbara, would read to him. These stories, told in German, sparked his imagination and inspired him to create art based purely on his own visions. His Justin’s Dreams series, which blends stories with his father into colorful, dreamlike paintings, captures the whimsical and emotional depth of his imagination.
Dennis Krueger, a close friend of the Grotrian family, offers a different perspective with his detailed felt-tip drawings. His minimalist style brings a unique simplicity to the exhibit. While his work contrasts with the more figurative pieces of Timothy and Justin, it adds another layer to the overall conversation between the different styles on display.
