St Louis Firefighter Receives Outstanding Service Award on May 14 at MAC Downtown

A St. Louis firefighter will be honored for heroism, service above/beyond the call of duty and community service by Rotary Club of St. Louis (RCSTL) on Thursday, May 14 at the Missouri Athletic Club Downtown. RCSTL presents this Award in May every year to recognize outstanding service by a St. Louis firefighter. The Club also presents an annual Award for St. Louis Metro Police Officers every October. Firefighter Brad Trower was selected by St. Louis Fire Chief Dennis Jenkerson as the best candidate for this year’s Rotary Club Award, acknowledging Trower’s dedication to the STLFD and the St. Louis community. Trower has served the St. Louis Fire Department for 12 years and is currently assigned to Rescue Squad 2B. Firefighter Trower is a United States Air Force veteran. He has a passion for teaching and sharing his knowledge with others, particularly the ‘up and coming’ generation of firefighters. He also teaches and assists with Fire Recruit Training Academy classes. “Our Rotary Club’s motto is ‘Service Above Self,’ and we are proud of our long tradition of honoring the brave men and women of the St. Louis Fire Department and Metropolitan Police Department,” explained Mark Regan, the Club’s awards committee chairman. “Firefighter Brad Trower has demonstrated exceptional service to the citizens of St. Louis and is very deserving of this Award.” Details about Rotary Club of St. Louis’ annual Fire Department Outstanding Service Award are posted on the Club’s website, www.RotarySTL.org, as well on the Club’s LinkedIn and Facebook pages. For more than 100 years, as the largest and oldest Rotary club in the area, RCSTL has actively recognized and supported a variety of organizations in the Greater St Louis region. About Rotary Club of St Louis: Since 1910, the Rotary Club of St Louis, the 11th club launched by Rotary International and one of 34,000 Clubs worldwide, has focused its efforts to make a difference in downtown St. Louis. All member fees, donations and event sponsorships that the Club receives are used to help those in need downtown. RCSTL and its satellite club, the Civilian Rotary Club, have assisted downtown Tornado Disaster Relief efforts, participated in service projects and raised funds to provide for those impacted last May. The Club also hosts an annual Charity Golf Tournament every August in Forest Park, and other fundraisers throughout the year, which enable the Club to present Community Service Grants every June to 20 small local charities. The Club also hosts an annual Young Citizens Awards program recognizing academic excellence and leadership for eighth-grade students in St. Louis Public Schools. RCSTL works with Webster University to award selected eighth-grade students from each of the City’s grade schools a $5,000, four-year renewable Webster scholarship. RCSTL meets every Thursday at noon at the Missouri Athletic Club downtown at 405 E. Washington Avenue. Club meetings are open to press/media and the general public.
