Annie Turnbo Malone Film to Premiere at Lindenwood Theatre


Lindenwood Theatre in St. Charles will host a premiere screening of the documentary, “Annie Turnbo Malone: The Untold Story,” which highlights little-known facts about one of the country’s first Black female millionaires. It will be shown at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 26, during the university’s Fashion Showcase. Malone, who began her business venture in historic Brooklyn, Ill., is revered in the St. Louis region as an astute entrepreneur and changemaker. She developed her own line of hair care products and trained Black beauticians on how to operate successful businesses. The 90-minute film features first-time interviews from people who knew Malone personally, highlights her philanthropic efforts and maps her route to success. It also highlights her development of Poro College in 1917, which created a wide range of business and employment opportunities for Black residents in St. Louis. General admission tickets starting at $5 can be purchased via the box office at Lindenwood University. All proceeds from the event will be contributed to support the restoration of the Annie Malone Children’s and Family Services building.
