The Spaces Between Us

Designed as an immersive experience, Dance for Sacred Space is a secular exploration of the sacred—examining meaning, awe, and transcendence within human experience, independent of specific traditions, religions, or belief systems. It invites audiences of all beliefs—religious, spiritual, secular, and beyond—into a shared space of reflection, approaching the “sacred” as something inherent in moments, places, rituals, relationships, and communities that feel transformative or deeply connected. Within this series, “sacred space” is understood as any space intentionally shaped to invite or support a sense of spiritual connection or experience. Here, “spiritual” refers to that which relates to or affects the human spirit, existing alongside—but not limited to—the physical and material. This perspective invites us to consider how thought, emotion, and presence move within these spaces. Making Dance Laboratories invite audiences into the creative process. Guided by Leverage Artistic Director Diana Barrios and guest facilitators, participants select from a “menu” of choreographic options, which the dancers then develop in real time. As the work unfolds, facilitators share insight into the creative process and lead conversations around the ideas and themes emerging in the room. Audiences are highly encouraged to reserve seats. Seating is limited. This event is fully accessible, though guests with accessibility needs are encouraged to be in touch so we may support their visit, as there is some audience movement during the event.
