The Seattle Choral Company begins their 44th season with "Winter Holiday: Christmas in Latvia" - where Christian traditions blend with ancient pagan customs to create a rich and magical atmosphere.
A Latvian Christmas is unlike any other—a luminous blend of Christian traditions and ancient pagan customs. The holiday honors the birth of Christ with church services, carols, and festive meals, while also keeping alive centuries-old solstice rituals: lively mummers’ parades, fortune-telling, and the burning of logs to drive out darkness and welcome the returning sun. The result is a season steeped in magic, warmth, and deep cultural heritage.
Join the Seattle Choral Company for this holiday concert of music for choir and orchestra featuring works by four distinguished Latvian composers. And, as always, the concert will conclude with a glowing candlelight finale—a tradition that fills the hall with peace, beauty, and holiday wonder.
