Valentine Love at Homeward Pet

This February, Homeward Pet Adoption Center is inviting animal lovers to skip the box of chocolates and instead send a heartfelt message to a homeless dog or cat. The shelter’s annual "Valentine Love" event offers a unique way for the community to support local animals while they wait for their forever homes. For a donation of $25, supporters can send a "real," old-fashioned paper valentine to a specific shelter resident of their choice. These valentines will be prominently displayed in the shelter alongside photos of the animals receiving them. “It’s a good old-fashioned Love-Fest for the animals in our care,” said Kim Leary, MarComm Manager at Homeward Pet. “These valentines don’t just decorate our walls; they represent the community’s support for each cat and dog. It’s a wonderful way for people to connect with our animals, even if they aren't in a position to adopt right now.” The love doesn't end at the shelter doors. If a sponsored pet is adopted during the month, their new family will be given the option to take the animal’s collection of Valentine photos and cards home with them as a keepsake of their first Valentine’s Day together. For donors who wish to keep a memento for themselves, they are welcome to contact the shelter at the end of February to arrange to pick up a valentine. How to Participate: • Send a Valentine: Visit homewardpet.org/donate-now-valentine/ to make a $25 donation. • Choose Your Valentine: During the donation process, you will be prompted to provide the name of the specific cat or dog you wish to honor. • Spread More Love: To sponsor multiple pets, donors can select the “Other” donation amount and enter a total equal to $25 multiplied by the number of pets. Names for multiple valentines can be listed in the final donation screen. All proceeds from the event go directly toward the food, medical care, and behavior training provided to the cats and dogs at Homeward Pet as they await adoption.
