Northwest Sinfonietta : Butterfly Fantasy, May 16-17
Artistic Partner Mei-Ann Chen returns to lead a fantastical program that bridges Eastern and Western musical traditions. The evening opens with Che-Yi Lee’s Dancing Strings, a dynamic and virtuosic work that showcases the energy and color of the string orchestra.
Acclaimed violinist Melissa White takes center stage in the beloved Butterfly Lovers Concerto, often described as the “Romeo and Juliet of China.” This sweeping work tells a poignant story of love, longing, and transformation through soaring melodies and lush orchestration.
The season concludes with Ravel’s Mother Goose, a suite of enchanting musical fairy tales filled with spinning wheels, pagodas, princesses, and magical gardens, brought to life through Ravel’s luminous orchestral palette.
Enhancing the experience, audiences are invited to enjoy a Taiwanese mini-festival in partnership with the Asia Pacific Cultural Center, featuring food, cultural activities, and community engagement that celebrate the program’s rich cultural connections.
