Michael P. Fencil Golf Tournament Honors a Vietnam Navy Vet and Supports Two Nonprofits
Suncoast: The Michael P. Fencil Memorial Golf Tournament is Michael P. Fencil Memorial Golf Tournament is Saturday, May 10, 2025, at 8:30am at The River Club. The tournament is in memory of this proud Vietnam Navy Veteran and Air National Guard. The tournament will support two Suncoast nonprofits: the Denis V. Cooper Foundation – Wishes for Heroes and Satchel’s Last Resort.
Michael P. Fencil passed away in 2020. Originally from Liverpool, NY. he was a proud Navy Vet, serving in Vietnam and then 10 years with the Syracuse Air National Guard.
“The two nonprofits were chosen because of Michael’s service and his love of animals. Michael’s love of golf makes this a perfect trifecta of an event,” explains Kathy King, tournament director and owner of The King of Events. “The proceeds from the tournament will be equally divided between these beneficiaries.”
“Denis V. Cooper Foundation – Wishes for Heroes” was created with the goal of developing a grass roots program for Suncoast military veterans and their families to honor their service. The Foundation strives to meet the changing needs of service members and to enhance their quality of life.
Satchel’s Last Resort is a no-kill animal shelter and sanctuary whose mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and re home dogs and cats with nowhere else to go due to breed, behavioral or medical issues.
The Michael P. Fencil Memorial Golf Tournament is a 4-Person Best Ball Shotgun Start held at the beautiful The River Club golf course. The River Club is considered one of the most challenging layouts in the area. Two distinctive nines incorporate rolling fairways with plenty of mounding on the front and dense woods undulating, rolling greens on the back. The Ron Garl-designed18-hole championship course incorporated all new state-of-the-art Jones Dwarf greens.
