Bryan Mulcahy is a long-time lecturer and friend of the Genealogical Society of Sarasota.  He has been the Adult Reference, Genealogy, and Circulation librarian since 1990.  Bryan received his BA and Master of Library Science from Florida State University in 1984.   We always welcome his knowledge and inspiration in the field of genealogy as he has shared many written articles and guides with us over the years.

Railroads were the primary mode of transportation in the United States from the 1820s through the 1940s. Historians regard railroads as being America’s first large-scale business, which because it was labor intensive, employed millions. By 1920, one in every 50 Americans were employed by the railroads. Railroad construction also attracted thousands of immigrants, including Chinese, Germans, Italians, and Irish laborers. Many personnel records from the various railroads have been misplaced or destroyed over the years, however, where they have survived, these personnel records are very detailed. Our seminar will discuss various resources and strategies help trace your railroad worker ancestors.

Please join us, members and non-members are welcome!  For those members who prefer not to attend in person, we are also broadcasting the meeting via Zoom.  Members will be sent a link prior to the meeting date.   If you would like information on becoming a member, please email Genealogical Society of Sarasota.
