Gillespie Park Centennial Celebration

One of Sarasota’s most historic neighborhoods is celebrating its 100th Anniversary – twice! On March 29, we honor John Hamilton Gillespie, city founder and first mayor, with recognition of his Scottish heritage, tree giveaways, and more. Gillespie could not have imagined what his namesake neighborhood park (donated in his honor by his friend Owens Burns) has become, but no doubt would appreciate how his community spirit endures. Experience it through music, performances, food and more. Events include: Scottish music, dancers and (of course) bagpipes from Riverview HS, Blue Skye All Female Celtic Band, Lion Rampart Pipe & Drum, and more Sarasota Military Academy Screaming Eagles Band Gillespie Park History Walk and History Corner City of Sarasota Trees Giveaway Art tent and children's activities FREE On November 15, help us celebrate how we have grown and are creating the future of Gillespie Park, a vibrant, multicultural and in-demand city neighborhood.
