As the sun crosses the celestial equator, day and night find perfect balance — and so do we. This Equinox, Sarasota Ecstatic Dance invites movers, artists, families, and free spirits to gather for a day of movement, mindfulness, and community celebration at The Bazaar on Apricot and Lime on Friday, March 20th.
Since 2013, Ecstatic Dance Sarasota has been a heartbeat of the conscious community on Florida’s west coast — a space where people of all ages and abilities gather to move freely, express authentically, and connect deeply. Led by Kelly Atkins, a movement artist and facilitator with over two decades of experience, these dances are less about choreography and more about discovery — listening to your body, releasing tension, and remembering joy.
The Equinox Sarasota Ecstatic Dance honors that spirit of balance. The day begins with morning yoga guided by Joshua Redmond of Natrona Yoga, easing participants into mindful motion. From there, Kelly leads an ecstatic journey through sound and rhythm — a dance that welcomes everybody, from children to elders, to find their flow.
When the music fades, the celebration continues: artisan vendors, local makers, Hamlet’s Eatery’s special Equinox menu, and refreshing drinks from Flobucha invite everyone to linger, connect, and soak in Sarasota’s creative community.
This event isn’t just a dance. It’s a living reminder that we move best — and heal deepest — when we move together.
FAQs
What is Ecstatic Dance?
Ecstatic Dance is a global freeform movement practice — no choreography, no judgment, no talking on the dance floor. It’s a place to express, release, and connect through music and motion. All ages, all levels, and all abilities are welcome.
Do I need dance experience?
Not at all! Come as you are. Kelly’s facilitation creates a supportive, open environment for first-timers and experienced movers alike.
Is it really free?
Yes! This is a community offering. We simply ask participants to support local businesses at The Bazaar — whether by grabbing food from Hamlet’s Eatery, enjoying a drink, or shopping with vendors. Your presence means a lot—but if you’d like to give a little more, we’re also collecting food donations for the local food bank and Meals on Wheels.
Can kids come?
Absolutely. Children are welcome and encouraged! Ecstatic Dance is a beautiful experience for families — a safe space to explore movement together.
