Viewpoints Gallery is proud to present “Simplicity & Elegance in Nature,” an exciting new collection of works in gold leaf, acrylic and collage by Woodside artist, Amy Rattner. Amy has been painting wildlife for over 18 years and her ability to capture the spirit and personality of her animal subjects shines in each of her works. Amy’s latest collection reveals her lifelong love of Japanese art and the Arts and Crafts movement of the 1920s. Each piece combines Amy’s masterful depiction of wildlife with elegant gold leaf touches, beautiful handmade paper from around the globe and simple compositions that celebrate the concept of less is more.
Amy’s unique design aesthetic developed during her childhood and inspired her to create this new collection. “My mom studied Japanese history in college and, after living in Kyoto for a year, she filled our childhood home with beautiful Japanese screens, artifacts and woodblock prints. I grew up adoring Japanese art and design, which honored elegance, simplicity and the concept of less is more. I am also inspired by the Arts and Crafts movement of the 1920’s, which celebrated a return to handcrafted art, natural materials and simplicity in design.” Amy’s latest collection, a tribute to her late mother, is her modern interpretation of these artistic influences. In each piece, she juxtaposes gold leaf and brilliant handcrafted paper with simple designs that give the viewer plenty of space to appreciate the grace and elegance of her wildlife subjects.
Amy works at home (with her two Bernese mountain dogs at her feet), and at her studio at Art Bias in San Carlos. After receiving a BA and MA in English from Stanford, she fell in love with graphic design while working for the university and ultimately started her own design firm, Kindred-Storey Designs. In 2006, she rediscovered her love of fine art and began her career in fine arti. Since then, Amy’s award winning work has been juried into local, national, and international exhibitions and has appeared in magazines such as Mountain Home, Southwest Art, Palette Magazine and Art and Color 365. Her work has been featured in galleries throughout California, in Santa Fe, New Mexico and online at UGallery. She is a member of Allied Artists West (AAW), Art Bias, the Santa Clara Valley Watercolor Society, American Women Artists and the Association of Animal Artists. Amy’s work is currently available at Viewpoints Gallery in Los Altos. More information about Amy’s work can be found on her website, www.amyrattnertart.com, on Instagram @amysr, on Facebook www.facebook.com/AmyRattnerArt and on the Viewpoints Gallery website, www.viewpointsgallery.com.
