Working from a live model, we will approach drawing the head by focusing on the organization of light and dark shapes to create a strong visual interpretation of the portrait.
Students will learn to identify key structural landmarks and translate them into clear, graphic shapes that effectively communicate form and depth. Through a series of shorter poses, we will emphasize blocking in the head efficiently, with a particular focus on capturing the relationship between light and shadow. This method not only strengthens foundational drawing skills but also serves as a great introduction to painting, as it mirrors the approach used in tonal painting techniques.
Whether you're looking to improve your portrait drawing or build a stronger bridge to painting, this workshop will help you see and simplify the head with confidence.
