Following our successful joint October concert with two other premier local bands, the San Jose Wind Symphony and the San Francisco Brass Band, we invite you to join the San Jose Metropolitan Band in welcoming the holiday season! The concert is on Sunday, December 8th at 3:00pm at the Hammer Theatre, which is located at Paseo de San Antonio and Third Street in downtown San Jose. You don’t want to miss this festive concert!
Our Holiday Spectacular concert will feature:
- For you Baby Boomers, music from the 1960 Walt Disney movie Babes in Toyland (George Bruns, arr Leland Forsblad), based on Victor Herbert’s classic operetta
- For the Gen X’ers, selections from the classic 1980 holiday movie Home Alone (John Williams, arr Paul Lavender)
- For the Millennials among you, Minor Alterations No. 2: “Carols From the Dark Side” (David Lovrien 2010), featuring familiar holiday melodies transposed from major to minor set in the style of famous minor-keyed orchestral pieces
- The frolicking onomatopoeic carol Patapan (Shelley Hanson 2005), mimicking the sounds of drums and flutes
- Tunes familiar to all in Christmas Sing-Along (David Lovrien 1997) and End of the Year Special (Andree Pearce 2013), whose music is inspired by the original TF1 ‘Cine Dimanche’ logo
Come early and explore downtown San Jose, which is home to the San Jose Museum of Art, the dynamic South of First Area (SOFA), and San Pedro Square. After the concert, plan to finish the day with dinner at one of the many excellent downtown restaurants.
Advanced ticket reservations are strongly recommended to expedite entry into the concert. Ticket prices are $25 for adults, $20 for seniors, $10 for students, and FREE for children. Directions to the theater, parking information, and answers to FAQs about the Hammer can be found at www.hammertheatre.com.
