Lifting As We Rhyme: 50 Years of Black Feminist Sonic World Making


UCSC Feminist Studies and the UCSC Music Dept. are pleased to host two events with Tricia Rose, internationally respected speaker, award-winning writer, and scholar of African American culture, racial inequality, and gender. Rose is Director of the Systemic Racism Project at the John Nicholas Brown Center for Advanced Study and Chancellor's Professor of Africana Studies at Brown University. In addition to her latest book, Metaracism, she is the author of Black Noise and The Hip Hop Wars. On Friday, May 2, Prof. Rose joins Humanities professor Gina Dent, and Music professor and hip hop artist akua naru for Lifting As We Rhyme: 50 Years of Black Feminist Sonic World Making - a dialogic reflection on the intersection of Black feminism and Black music, and the power of these transformative cultural movements. FREE and open to the public.
