Summer Festival: Returning to Mozart

This summer marks a momentous occasion for Music@Menlo: the final festival under the Artistic Directorship of David Finckel and Wu Han. Tickets are now on sale for Redux, a celebratory exploration of chamber music which revisits themes from David and Wu Han's 24 years of leadership. Music@Menlo’s 2006 celebration of Mozart’s 250th anniversary explored a distinctive idea: Mozart not as a beginning, but as a destination. This program follows that journey, moving from Mahler’s youthful piano quartet movement and Shostakovich’s searing Piano Trio No. 2 through darkness, loss, and longing. After intermission, Mozart’s transcendent music brings light, consolation, and the sense of arrival that has made him a source of inspiration and solace for generations. PROGRAM Gustav Mahler Piano Quartet in A minor Dmitri Shostakovich Piano Trio no. 2 in E minor, op. 67 Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Violin Sonata in B-flat major, K. 454 Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Piano Concerto no. 13 in C major, K.415 ARTISTS Gilbert Kalish, Evren Ozel, Chelsea Wang, piano; Aaron Boyd, Kristin Lee, Arnaud Sussmann, Danbi Um, violins; Aaron Boyd, James Thompson, violas; Dmitri Atapine, Sihao He, cellos; Nina Bernat, bass [email protected] (650) 331-0202
