Following a warmly received spring run, SPARC brings Tennessee Williams’ beloved American classic The Glass Menagerie to Hayward for three performances only, September 18–20, at the Douglas Morrisson Theatre.
Directed by Gary Armagnac, this intimate production was called “intimate and immersive” and “a don’t miss” by Barbara Keer of Global & Regional On-Stage.
Set in 1930s St. Louis, Williams’ haunting “memory play” follows aspiring poet Tom Wingfield as he looks back on his troubled family: his mother Amanda, a faded Southern belle clinging to the past; his painfully shy sister Laura; and the arrival of a gentleman caller who briefly offers the possibility of a different future. Rich with humor, heartbreak, and longing, The Glass Menagerie remains one of the most celebrated works of American theater.
