Poetic Ruckus has officially become a tradition at the The San Geronimo Valley Community Center, marking their third consecutive year performing here. The band brings together the talents of longtime Valley resident and violinist Julie Egger, guitarist and vocalist James Moseley, cellist Michele McCulloch, and stand-up bassist Patrick Kelly.
Michele McCulloch’s love for music began at age four, inspired by the unique mix of Beethoven and Burl Ives. Born into an artistic family, she developed a deep appreciation for sound as others did for color. James Moseley, influenced by legends like the Temptations, Marvin Gaye, and Jimi Hendrix, began his music career in Columbus, Ohio, at 15. After moving to California in 1980, James made waves in the Bay Area music scene, founding The James Moseley Band, a nine-piece group that fused R&B, blues, reggae, and jazz.
Patrick Kelly, who started with the viola at age three, studied through the classical Suzuki method. His interest expanded to jazz and world music during his teens, eventually gravitating toward the contrabass. And then there’s Julie Egger, who began playing violin at seven, joining the Long Island Youth Orchestra in high school, and performing internationally. A Manhattan School of Music and Crane School of Music alumna, Julie has performed with numerous ensembles and taught music, including time spent in Boston as both a violin teacher and a special education teacher.
If you haven’t yet seen Poetic Ruckus perform—or even if you have—their show is a must-see. The talent, creativity, and synergy among these musicians promise an inspiring performance that will not disappoint.
