Evening of Contemporary American Poetry : featuring Albert Flynn DeSilver and Aja Couchois Duncan
The San Geronimo Valley Community Center's Valley Arts and Lecture Series proudly presents an extraordinary evening of contemporary American Poetry featuring two widely published poets living in Woodacre—Aja Couchois Duncan and Albert Flynn DeSilver. Both poets will be celebrating the release of their new books: Aja's The Intimacy Trials just out from the University of Chicago Press's Phoenix Poetry Series, and Albert's SOME VOID: New & Selected Poems 1996-2026, from the nonexistent press which celebrates work from the past 30 years.
Aja Couchois Duncan is a social justice coach and capacity builder of Anishinaabe, French and Scottish descent living on the ancestral and stolen lands of the Coast Miwok / Tamal-ko people. Her debut collection, Restless Continent (Litmus Press, 2016) was selected by Entropy Magazine as one of the best poetry collections of 2016 and awarded the California Book Award for Poetry in 2017. Her latest book is The Intimacy Trials just out from The University of Chicago Press.
Albert Flynn DeSilver is an internationally published poet and writer, and 30 year resident of Woodacre. Albert taught as a California Poet in the School for many years, and from 2008-2010 served as Marin County's very first poet laureate. He is the author of numerous books of poetry including Letters to Early Street, the memoir Beamish Boy, a nonfiction book on writing titled Writing as a Path to Awakening from Sounds True, and is currently working on numerous fiction projects. Albert has taught at the Esalen Institute, Omega Institute, Spirit Rock, and at writers conferences nationally. He is the development coordinator at the Community Center and hosts the radio and podcast program Voices of the Valley on KWMR.
