Join The Curve Foundation and QWOCMAP as three powerhouse filmmakers, Cheryl Dunye, Pratibha Parmar, and Madeleine Lim reflect on the past 25 years of the landscape for queer women of color in filmmaking, mapping what has or has not changed as well as where the needle might have shifted. They will also touch upon a vision of the next 25 years, looking beyond representation and inclusion to what just and compelling filmmaking can be in order to create change. Asking what we want our legacies as queer women of color filmmakers to be in this world, this panel series promises to spark thought, fire new questions, and incite joy. Link to Free Tickets Moderator Madeleine Lim, Executive Director of QWOCMAP Panelists Cheryl Dunye, director, writer, producer Pratibha Parmar, writer & filmmaker The Curve Foundation's Beyond the Rainbow panel series Beyond the Rainbow, a project of The Curve Foundation, is a groundbreaking conversation series that seeks to create an intersectional, multi-generational space touching on gender, queerness, race, ability, and activism of yesterday and today. Beyond the Rainbow seeks to challenge the possibilities and limits of queer representation as a path towards liberation. Bios: Cheryl Dunye is a world-renowned Director, Writer, Producer, and Founder of Jingletown Films. Cheryl Dunye first emerged as part of the “Queer New Wave” of young filmmakers in the early 1990s with her first feature film, "The Watermelon Woman," winning the Teddy Award for Best Feature at the 1996 Berlin International Film Festival. Cheryl is currently best known for her directing work on shows including Netflix’s "Dear White People," HBO’s "Lovecraft Country," and Netflix’s "Bridgerton." Pratibha Parmar is a globally recognized, award-winning British filmmaker and human rights activist. She is a writer, director, and producer with a track record of bringing deeply compelling stories into the mainstream media, stories that resonate beyond the margins. She has worked across multiple genres – feature documentaries, short dramas, music videos, a narrative feature, and is a recent director of episodic television, "Law & Order SUV" and Ava DuVernay’s "Queen Suger." Her work has appeared in a variety of broadcast and theatrical platforms. Madeleine Lim is Queer Women of Color Media Arts Project’s (QWOCMAP) Founding Executive/Artistic Director and an award-winning independent filmmaker with 30 years of experience. Her films have screened at sold-out theaters at international film festivals around the world. Her documentaries include "Jewelle: A Just Vision" (2022); "The Worlds of Bernice Bing" (2013); "Sambal Belacan in San Francisco" (1997), which continues to be banned in Singapore.
