Evensong is a meditative, peaceful and reflective service of sung prayer that has been a daily and living tradition in the Anglican church since the 16th century. It is rooted in the ancient monastic practice of praying at set times each day, and is traditionally held near sunset. Through the centuries, composers and musicians have brought to life some of history’s most glorious music to elevate these prayers, leaving a legacy of beauty that is one of the treasures of our cathedral life, and that remains open to everyone.
Evensong is free and is offered at Grace Cathedral every Thursday at 5:30 p.m. During the academic term, it is sung by the Cathedral Choir of Men and Boys. The choristers are students at Cathedral School for Boys, and the adult singers are professional musicians.
