Caldwell Snyder Gallery presents a solo exhibition featuring new works by local Napa Valley–based artist Matt Rogers.
Matt Rogers is known for his colorful and vibrant landscapes and prismatic floral paintings. In his most recent body of work, the artist uses soft brush techniques to create floral paintings with color palettes and compositions that remind the audience of nebulae, galaxies, and the cosmos. Alongside this new style, his signature thickly painted flower walls and candy-like landscapes complete a cohesive exhibition of more than twenty new paintings.
Like Wayne Thiebaud, his friend and mentor, Rogers is keenly attuned to both the structures of nature and the transformative power of paint, creating subtly surreal images that challenge ideas of beauty and natural order. A lifelong Californian, born in Oakland and trained at the San Francisco Art Institute, he lives and works in St. Helena and exhibits widely.
