The SF Stair Challenge

The fourth annual SF Stair Challenge will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2026. This year’s secret route, crafted by our mastermind team of WalkLab volunteers, explores the incredible stairways of the Pacific Heights neighborhood. The total length is approximately five miles with roughly 2,000 stair steps, and will take most participants 3.5 to 4 hours to complete the self-guided loop route. This year’s route includes: - 30 staircases (big and small) that will delight and put your quads to the test - Grand neighborhoods full of majestic homes with richly diverse architecture - Jaw-dropping panoramic views stretching across the Bay and city skyline - Bustling commercial corridors — beware of tempting detours! - Vibrant murals and colorful public art surprises along the way - Secret alleys and tucked-away passageways waiting to be discovered Run or race the route or hike it at a leisurely pace. Do it solo or with friends and family. Walk it your way! But just don’t miss out on this one-of-a-kind experience celebrating one of the best things about San Francisco. This self-guided walk will have timed releases onto the route during 30-minute windows from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Start time window options are available for selection during the ticket purchase process. This event will be a blast, plus all proceeds support Walk SF, a small nonprofit dedicated to making San Francisco the safest, most pedestrian-friendly city in the United States. Consider asking friends and family to support you in taking on the SF Stair Challenge!
