Happy Hour Caregiver Support Group at Coastside Adult Day Health Center

🎉 Happy Birthday to the Happy Hour Caregiver Support Group! 🎂 January marks a special milestone as we celebrate one full year of shared understanding, mutual support, and community. What began as a simple idea—to create a space where caregivers could exhale and feel less alone—has grown into a meaningful, trusted gathering for caregivers across our community. That feels like a very good reason to eat cake together. Please note a gentle scheduling reminder: due to Coastside Adult Day Health Center’s winter holiday closure, the January Happy Hour Caregiver Support Group will be held on Friday, January 9, rather than the first Friday of the month. Beginning in February, we will resume our regular first-Friday schedule. Happy Hour Caregiver Support Group is a monthly, in-person support group designed specifically for non-professional caregivers caring for individuals with dementia, cognitive impairment, and other chronic or complex medical conditions. Hosted by Coastside Adult Day Health Center, the group provides a welcoming, informal, and judgment-free space where caregivers can connect with others who truly understand the emotional, physical, and often unpredictable realities of caregiving. Caregiving can be isolating and exhausting. Many caregivers experience burnout, grief, role strain, guilt, and chronic stress while navigating complicated healthcare systems and ever-changing care needs. Happy Hour was created in direct response to these challenges—offering caregivers a place to pause, breathe, and feel seen. Each gathering is facilitated by licensed clinical social workers with extensive experience in medical social work, dementia care, and caregiver support. Meetings include education, shared problem-solving, open discussion, and peer support. Topics often include caregiver stress and burnout, communication challenges, grief and ambiguous loss, boundary setting, navigating healthcare and long-term care systems, and planning for future needs. Just as importantly, Happy Hour values humor and authenticity. Caregivers are encouraged to share both the heavy moments and the lighter, sometimes absurd experiences that only other caregivers can truly understand. Laughter is welcome. Tears are welcome. Listening quietly is welcome, too. The group is intentionally informal and accessible. Refreshments are provided, and caregivers may attend regularly or drop in as their schedules allow. There is no pressure to participate beyond what feels comfortable. Happy Hour Caregiver Support Group exists to reduce isolation, build resilience, and remind caregivers that caring for themselves is not selfish—it is essential. We look forward to celebrating our first birthday together on January 9 and continuing this meaningful journey in the months ahead.
